CD Projekt in the RED.
The short answer, unfortunately,
is no.
It genuinely saddens me to give
such an answer. I had so much hope.
I was playing it on high settings
on my PC, without tearing or frame rate issues and whilst Cyberpunk was
actually working, it did look amazing.
However, I was getting problems in
cutscenes. Characters were flying around T-posing - some were even headless - over a
flat textured and single coloured (grey) landscape. Unfortunately I don't have
evidence and have since refunded my game.
I don't want to jump on the
bandwagon of hate surrounding the game. I never played this title on release
and had only played it once, yesterday. One forty-minute stint, which
completely broke my immersion.
I got the game at a heavily
discounted price, but still I feel I paid too much. Any price, for a product
that doesn't work properly, is going to be too much. It's a sixty-three-gigabyte game, with around forty-eight additional
gigabytes of patches. A huge game that's nearly doubled in size through patches
alone and it's still broken.
With a usual retail price in the
UK of £50 ($62 US), it's frankly unacceptable and I urge you to save your
money.
Online retailers like Steam and
Epic only offer a tiny two-hour window of play, before games void their return
policy, so it's a roll of the dice. Cyberpunk is a massive game; are you going
to see a bug in that time? £50 is a lot of money to lose.
I appreciate bugs manifest
themselves in different ways and different people will get varying mileage out
of the game, but I guarantee it will inevitably break.
I’m sure many will disagree with
me and say the game is good now. I do understand that the game does “mostly”
work, and is now far more stable, as of the latest next-gen patch. That’s great for
people who have already purchased Cyberpunk and are stuck with it. However, I just
want those, who have not yet parted with their hard-earned money, to be cautious
of this newfound praise suddenly spreading across the internet.
Let me reiterate that I genuinely
wanted this game to be working a year and half later. Hopefully, Cyberpunk 2077
2 will be much better, when it arrives in about thirty years from now.
I hope you enjoyed this article.
